The film's screenplay was co-written by Paolo and longtime collaborator Orlando Tirado and tells the story of a transgender woman returning to the American Midwest to take care of her dying mother. It explores themes of fractured families, abandonment, aging, commitment, and redemption.

According to the co-writer and director of the film, Andrea Palaro, the movie is based on a true story and aims to explore the complexity of abandonment and trauma within the LGBTQ+ community.

The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year and then participated in the London BFI Flare Festival. It has an 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 5.6 rating on Douban.
