Brazilian Senator Proposes Designating Batman Day as a National Holiday to Commemorate the Character

On July 11, Marianne Matos, a state representative from Santa Catarina, Brazil, submitted a bill to the city council suggesting that September 17 be designated as a public holiday known as 'Batman Day' to commemorate the character and address public safety in the city. The purpose is to 'show respect for this character and address public safety in the city.'

'Batman Day' was originally initiated by DC Comics in 2014 as a fan celebration for Batman's 75th birthday. According to the city council's website, the proposal has been 'sent for instructions' and will be included in the agenda of the House of Representatives on July 26. Some internet users expressed, 'The more holidays, the better. I think Superman also deserves his own day.' Others criticized, 'With so many noteworthy figures in Brazil, they chose a fictional foreign character.' 'Oh, of course, it's very urgent! We definitely need a holiday to commemorate a fictional superhero!'
