Behind the Scenes: The Origin of 'The Witcher' from a Fictitious Word

In German, words have three genders: DER (masculine), DAS (neuter), and DIE (feminine), and Polish follows a similar structure. Author Andrzej Sapkowski explained that in Polish, the word for 'witch,' 'wiedźma,' only has a feminine form and lacks a corresponding masculine word. As a result, he decided to create the non-existent word 'Wiedźmin' to depict a male witcher character.
Recently, Andrzej Sapkowski also revealed that he is currently writing a new book in 'The Witcher' series, and he anticipates it will take a year to complete.
