The latest DC superhero flick, "Blue Beetle," has received its Douban rating—merely 5.7, falling short of the 6-point benchmark. With just 785 reviews in so far, 38.1% of the audience has given it a 3-star rating.
The film's lackluster reception isn't surprising as Warner Bros. did not carry out any domestic promotions for this movie and opted not to release it in the mainland.
Turning to box office numbers, the film, after over 10 days since its release, has yet to surpass the hundred-million mark. Within three days of its release, the daily box office was overtaken by "Barbie," marking the second weakest opening performance among DC works, only ahead of "Wonder Woman 1984," which premiered during the pandemic.
The storyline revolves around a Mexican-American teenager stumbling upon an extraterrestrial scarab, which grants him an armored suit with superpowers.
