After a decade of anticipation, the TV series "Creation of the Gods" finally premiered tonight, with broadcasts on CCTV-8 in Mandarin, Dragon TV in Shanghainese, and Tencent Video in bilingual format.
In 2012, Jin Yucheng created "Creation of the Gods." In 2013, rumors circulated that Wong Kar-wai had acquired the film and television rights. It wasn't until 2017 that the production officially began.
On December 26th, "The New Min Weekly" interviewed the crew of "Creation of the Gods." According to the report, the set and props evoke a nostalgic '90s vibe, featuring locations like Huanghe Road, Zhizhen Garden, and Night Tokyo. Items such as sewing machines, knitted sweaters, and faded foot towels transport viewers back to the vibrant memories of the 1990s.
In 2018, the "Creation of the Gods" crew appealed to Shanghai residents to contribute nostalgic items, receiving an overwhelming response. Items ranging from teacups and flower vases to mobile phones, pianos, and even cars now appear in the series.
Among these precious props is a red knitted scarf donated by Hu Ge, woven from the yarn left by his mother. The sewing machine, also donated by Hu Ge, had been used by his mother for many years.
