On September 5th, the Korean premiere date of the movie "Red on the Yangtze" was officially announced, along with the debut of a unique Korean promotional poster. Audiences can look forward to experiencing this film in Korea on October 11th.
"Red on the Yangtze" originally premiered in Mainland China on January 22, 2023, and has since accumulated a staggering box office of 4.544 billion RMB, securing its position as the top-grossing film of 2023 in Mainland China and ranking sixth on the all-time single-film box office chart.
Starring Shen Teng, Jackson Yee, Zhang Yi, Lei Jiayin, Yue Yunpeng, and Wang Jiayi, the film depicts the historical events of the Southern Song Dynasty during the Shaoxing era, with a focus on the political intrigue that ensues after the death of General Yue Fei. On the eve of a crucial negotiation between China and the Jin Dynasty, a mysterious death occurs in the residence of a high-ranking official, and a vital secret message goes missing, entangling the lives of two unlikely heroes, Zhang Da and Sun Jun, in a grand political conspiracy.
Director Zhang Yimou, in a previous interview, highlighted the cultural significance of the story of "Yue Fei's mother's tattooed oath," which has been deeply ingrained in the Chinese cultural heritage. Bringing this timeless tale to the big screen has been a lifelong dream for him, and now, that dream has become a reality.
