More Film and TV Adaptations! Sega Explores Expansion of Yakuza and Persona IP

According to VGC, following the huge success of the Sonic movie, Sega continues to hint at the possibility of film and TV adaptations for the Yakuza and Persona series. Sega expressed a strong desire to extend its major IPs beyond the realm of video games. Shuji Utsumi, Sega's Chief Operating Officer, stated in a CNBC interview that, inspired by the recent success of the Sonic movies and TV productions, the company plans to adapt other IPs. Utsumi said, "In addition to Sonic, we have two other major IPs, one being Persona, and the other is the Yakuza series. Both of these IPs have big releases on the horizon. But, as I mentioned, we are also trying to venture into various other businesses and fields, such as Roblox and movies. All these IPs will soon appear in places beyond gaming." The Sonic movie, first released in 2020, grossed nearly $320 million. Its sequel, released last year, surpassed $405 million at the box office. The third movie is scheduled for release in December 2024.
