Winners and Nominees of 2023 Hugo Awards: Four Chinese Authors Shortlisted, First Time in China

In addition to literary works, film and television productions are an integral part of the Hugo Awards. The nominees for Best Dramatic Presentation (Long Form) include this year's Oscar-winning film 'Across the Universe in an Instant' and James Cameron's decade-long epic 'Avatar: The Way of Water.'

According to Dave McCarty, the chairperson of the 2023 Hugo Awards selection committee, they received over 1,800 valid nominations, surpassing last year's count by 30%.

The winners will be officially announced at the 81st World Science Fiction Convention in Chengdu in October. This convention marks the first time the Worldcon and Hugo Awards are held in China.

The World Science Fiction Convention, founded in 1939 and organized by the World Science Fiction Society, is the largest and most influential international event in the field of science fiction. The Hugo Awards presented during the convention are the highest international accolades in science fiction literature. In 2015, Chinese author Liu Cixin became the first Asian writer to receive a Hugo Award for Best Novel with the first book in his 'Three-Body' trilogy.
