According to Thegamer, the Lord of the Rings spin-off series "The Lord of the Rings: The Ring of Power" produced by Amazon has recently been sued by a fan fiction author, who said that the show allegedly plagiarized his work.
It is reported that the author's name is Demetrious Polychron. He claimed that his work was deeply influenced by Tolkien. He created, wrote and published an original book titled "The Fellowship of the King's Friendship", and conceived a whole series. Polychron filed a $250 million lawsuit against Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Amazon Studios executives and the Tolkien estate, alleging copyright infringement.
The author revealed that he obtained the copyright of the book in 2017 and wrote a letter to Tolkien's grandson in the same year explaining his enthusiasm for the "Lord of the Rings" series, introducing his books and hoping to get a review , but ultimately failed.
In addition, he also claimed to have left a copy of the manuscript in the home of Tolkien's descendants in 2019, but he has never been contacted, and he suspects that the content has been plagiarized by others. He said that although the books he created were inspired by "The Lord of the Rings", his works had different independent characters and storylines, and these contents were plagiarized.
