Passing of Chinese Documentary Pioneer Situ Zhao Dun at the Age of 85

On August 31st, according to information from the film industry, Professor Situ Zhao Dun of Beijing Film Academy passed away at the age of 85 in the early hours of the day. He was known as the spokesperson of film guardian Yu Yong, who conveyed this news.

Situ Zhao Dun, also known by his pen names Zuo Nan, Liang Wu Wu, and more. After being admitted to the Directing Department of Beijing Film Academy in 1959, he not only stayed on as a teacher after graduation but also became a highly respected figure in the Chinese film industry. He dedicated himself to promoting and cultivating documentaries in China, earning him the title of one of the pioneers of Chinese documentary filmmaking.

His film works include "Bamboo," "Twilight Over Green Hills," and "Father's Wedding." He also ventured into the field of TV documentaries, creating works such as "Road," "Environmental Art," "Glorious Journey," and "Our People's Congress." Additionally, he authored works like "Stories from the World of Cinema." Even after retiring, he continued to serve as the head of the Directing Department at the Modern Creative Media College of Beijing Film Academy in Qingdao, engaging in teaching activities.

He was awarded the "Golden Candle Award" by Beijing Film Academy in September 1997, and in July 2016, he received the "Outstanding Contribution to the Development of Chinese Documentary" award from the China Television Documentary Research Center. In the same year's Sino-French Documentary Biennial Exhibition, he was honored with a "Lifetime Achievement Award" in the field of film arts.

Throughout his life, Situ Zhao Dun maintained his integrity in speaking the truth and approaching his work with dedication. His entire journey was a contribution to the world of cinema.
