Hollywood Observer reports that the Super Mario Bros. movie has officially become the third highest-grossing animated film in history.

The film has currently earned $1.249 billion worldwide, with $549 million from North America and $700 million from outside North America, surpassing the previous third place holder, Incredibles 2 ($1.243 billion). Frozen and Frozen 2 are in the first and second positions with $1.284 billion and $1.45 billion, respectively.

The movie focuses on the fantastic adventures of the Mario Bros. Chris Pratt voices Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy voices Princess Peach, Charlie Day voices Luigi, Jack Black voices Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key voices Toad, Seth Rogen voices Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen voices Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson voices Kamek, Sebastian Maniscalco voices Spike, and Charles Martinez makes a cameo appearance. The film is directed by Aaron Horvath & Michael Jelenic (Teen Titans Go!) and written by Matthew Fogel (Minions: The Rise of Gru, The Lego Movie 2).
