Christopher Nolan had a public falling out with Warner Bros. due to the studio's shocking decision to release all of its 2021 films simultaneously in theaters and on streaming platforms, as well as issues with the distribution of 'Tenet.' As a result, Nolan ended his nearly 20-year collaboration with Warner Bros. and took his new film 'Oppenheimer' across the street to Universal (because Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. are located close to each other in Burbank).

Now, as the release of 'Oppenheimer' is approaching, Warner Bros.' new heads, Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, revealed to Variety, 'We hope to have Nolan back. I think there is a world in which that's possible.'

Variety also reported that two sources familiar with Nolan's situation disclosed that he received a seven-figure royalty payment from Warner Bros. for 'Tenet' in the past eight months. Warner Bros. considers this money as what they owe to Nolan, with no additional strings attached, but it partially incentivized the studio to mend the broken relationship.
