According to Sina Movies, during the live broadcast of the Shanghai roadshow of the film "Volunteers Army: Heroes Unleashed," Zhang Songwen reminisced about his first visit to Chen Kaige's studio. In the interview, Zhang Songwen mentioned that it took him 25 years to get closer to the director because Director Kaige was a senior at the Beijing Film Academy. He had witnessed him screening "Creation of the Gods" on campus. Director Kaige was "the pinnacle in the hearts of actors of our generation," and this was the reason he wanted to collaborate with him. "Volunteers Army: Heroes Unleashed" was released on September 28th, with Zhang Songwen portraying the role of Wu Xiuquan, a special envoy for China's United Nations delegation. The film revolves around the volunteers' heroic defense of the motherland on various fronts during the first anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, narrating the grand epic of the three-year Anti-American Aid Korea War.
