Batman's Retirement: A Tragic Incident Leaves Bruce Wayne Unable to Forgive Himself
2023-07-23
According to reports, Michael Keaton's version of Batman retired due to a tragic incident where he accidentally killed a criminal in front of the criminal's child. This little-known secret left him unable to continue as Batman, as he closed off his alter ego and couldn't forgive himself.
Many people expected to see Michael Keaton's Batman in his prime in the movie 'The Flash'; however, this Bruce Wayne appeared older and weary. In fact, he had already retired long before Barry Allen's appearance in the film.
The movie did not provide a detailed reason for him taking off the Batman cape, with Wayne only mentioning that Gotham is now one of the safest cities and doesn't need Batman anymore.
Nevertheless, fans still believe there's more to the story.
The director also expressed his desire to break people's expectations of Bruce Wayne.
"I really want to shatter people's expectations of Bruce Wayne after thirty years. I want to delve into his background story. If Bruce Wayne has been retired for 25 years as the story suggests, what happened to him during that time? I always say there must be something significant that occurred to make Bruce Wayne want to stop being Batman."
He went on to reveal the tragic reason Bruce Wayne hung up his Bat-suit, explaining that Keaton's Batman had once killed a criminal in front of the criminal's child.
"My idea was that he did something against his own principles; he accidentally killed a criminal in front of the criminal's kid... It wasn't intentional, but he did it. It parallels his parents' murder in front of him, which also created the Batman monster."
"He couldn't accept it, so he decided to bury his other self – Batman – and he has never been able to forgive himself."
