Regarding this acquisition plan, the producer of Studio Ghibli, Toshio Suzuki, has made a statement. He stated, "We have long been grappling with the issue of finding a successor, especially given that Hayao Miyazaki is now 82 years old, and I myself am 75." Suzuki admitted that although Hayao Miyazaki's eldest son, Goro Miyazaki, had been nominated as a successor, Goro himself believes that "it's difficult for one person to shoulder the responsibility of Studio Ghibli, and it's better to entrust the company's future to someone else." Hayao Miyazaki himself also opposes the idea of his son, Goro, taking over.
