As the 33rd installment in Toho's Godzilla series, "Godzilla 1.0" premiered in North America on December 1st, following its debut in Japan on November 3rd.

Critics universally praised "Godzilla 1.0," with some hailing it as one of the greatest Godzilla films ever. This acclaim is reflected in the perfect score on the Rotten Tomatoes website, maintaining this rating for over two weeks.

Consequently, expectations for the US box office were optimistic prior to "Godzilla 1.0's" arrival, despite the film being in Japanese with English subtitles.

According to data from Collider, "Godzilla 1.0" grossed a total of $11 million in the US, securing its spot at number three on the box office charts.

Even more exciting is that the film's box office revenue is enough to make Toho's latest monster epic the highest-grossing foreign-language live-action film since 2002's "Hero." However, the monster king's might falls short of surpassing "Hero's" $18 million opening.

Nevertheless, Toho executives are likely very pleased with "Godzilla 1.0" becoming the second-highest-grossing foreign-language live-action film in US history. They are undoubtedly thrilled with the film's global box office earnings reaching a whopping $35 million, especially considering "Godzilla 1.0's" relatively modest production budget.

Reportedly, the production cost of "Godzilla 1.0" was around $15 million. For a visual effects-intensive film, especially within Hollywood productions, this budget is relatively small. Fans on social media took note of this and drew comparisons between "Godzilla 1.0" and "Captain Marvel 2."

"'Godzilla 1.0's production cost is about 1/15 of 'Captain Marvel 2,' yet it's one of the most visually stunning disaster films I've seen."
