On August 18th, the Netflix animated series "Monkey King," produced by Stephen Chow and executive produced by him, has gone live.
Directed by Anthony Staki, the film adapts a Chinese mythological epic and follows the lively monkey (voiced by Ouyang Wancheng) on an epic adventure with his magical staff. He captures demons and monsters, defeats the peculiar Dragon King (voiced by Yang Bowen), and ultimately confronts his greatest adversary: his own self.
However, the monkey character in this rendition of "Monkey King" received criticism from numerous internet users upon its debut, being likened to a donkey. In response, the film's producer, Zhou Peiling, stated, "This version of the Monkey King is quite distinct from what everyone has seen before. Apart from showcasing Stephen Chow's unique sense of humor, the film also delves deeper into our understanding of human nature, distinguishing between good and evil."
