It's worth mentioning that Pixar's lowest opening box office film was their debut work 'Toy Story' in 1995, which earned $29.1 million. Considering the inflation rate, this was already a commendable performance, especially considering the significantly fewer theaters at that time.

The director of 'City of Madness,' Peter Sohn, previously directed the film 'The Good Dinosaur,' which also had a modest opening box office of only $39 million.

Despite the underwhelming box office performance, 'City of Madness' received decent reviews across various platforms, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 76% and an audience rating peaking at 92%. This indicates that the majority of viewers who watched the film enjoyed it.
