It turns out that Jurassic Shark 2: Abyss received as much attention at the box office as it did for the giant sharks.

According to gamesradar, despite the impact of the US actor and writer strike on Jurassic Shark 2's media tour, the sci-fi action sequel officially defeated O'Brien's Hommer in its opening weekend, earning $30 million in the US, securing the second position. O'Brien's Hommer, on the other hand, made $28.7 million.

In the international market, Jurassic Shark 2's performance was even more outstanding, grossing $142 million. The previous film, Jurassic Shark, surpassed $530.2 million in global box office, but given the dominance of Barbie and O'Brien's Hommer in theaters worldwide, the sequel's box office expectations were lower. However, surprisingly, Jurassic Shark 2's opening weekend surpassed the first installment's $101.5 million.

The film's success overseas in the US is partly attributed to its diverse cast, starring Jason Statham and one of China's highest-earning stars, Wu Jing.

In July of this year, when asked about the possibility of Jurassic Shark 3, Whitley said, 'I hope so. There's a lot more to explore in that world. It's a very rich world. Its international nature is very interesting.'
