On January 1st of this year, the copyright for Disney's earliest "Mickey Mouse" character entered the public domain for the first time in nearly a century, and this horror film was promptly announced. Production company Bailey Phillips emphasizes, "This is not a Disney film; the movie merely utilizes the 'Steamboat Willie Mickey Mouse' image now in the public domain."
