WeChat Strengthens Governance on Micro-Dramas, Takes Action Against 163 Mini Program Accounts

On November 18, WeChat Coral Security Official released the "Announcement on Further Strengthening the Governance of Micro-Drama Content."

WeChat officials stated that in routine inspections, they found some micro-dramas containing inappropriate content such as explicit, violent, and unhealthy values. Some accounts were involved in the improper promotion of these micro-dramas. WeChat mentioned that such content disrupts the platform's ecology, and they will further intensify the governance of inappropriate micro-drama content. Key areas of governance include bizarre and exaggerated themes, unhealthy value orientations, explicit content, and improper marketing promotions. For mini-programs or accounts with the mentioned violations, the platform will guide rectification. If no improvement occurs after reminders, actions will be taken against the accounts and content.

Recently, the platform has taken down 114 mini-program micro-dramas and dealt with 163 mini-program accounts that seriously violated the rules by publishing inappropriate micro-dramas. WeChat reminds creators to actively produce high-quality micro-dramas to avoid spreading improper and low-quality content. In the future, WeChat will continue to guide the standardized development of micro-drama content, providing better services for quality content creators and creating a healthier and cleaner online audio-visual space.
