Zack Snyder Responds to "Barbie" Joke: I Let Them Sneak in Some Side Hustle

In the "Barbie" joke from "Creation of the Gods," where I felt like I had a dream, and in the dream, I inexplicably got hooked on Zack Snyder's director's cut of "Justice League!" In a recent interview with "Men's Health" magazine, Snyder was asked about his take on this joke. He revealed that earlier this year, Warner Bros.' new CEO Michael DeLuca mentioned it to him and his wife & producing partner Deborah Snyder: "Hey, the movie ('Barbie') mentions 'Justice League,' pretty cool, I hope you guys understand, we think it's great." After the release of "Barbie," Snyder invited a group of friends to his house for a barbecue and watched "Barbie" together in the home theater, sharing hearty laughs. He said, "I think ('Barbie') is great, and the joke is pretty good too." He also "100%" agrees with the interviewer's statement that this joke is about his fan base, not himself. However, he was surprised that this incident became a meme in a popular culture blockbuster: "I said to Debbie (Deborah Snyder), 'You need to really think about this: your name is smoothly integrated into such a pop culture giant, and it exists as a joke in a movie about Barbie. It's crazy. You need to step back and think, 'Wow, what did we do? What happened? How did this become a popular meme?'"
