According to a DeepFocus report, in the closing credits of the film "Oberman's Mystery," only 27 members of the visual effects team received credit. This list includes Visual Effects Supervisor Andrew Jackson, along with 10 supervisors and 15 staff members, a ratio that raises eyebrows in the industry.

However, after the film's release, the visual effects production company DNEG published a list of over 160 contributors who were actively involved in bringing "Oberman's Mystery" to life.

Director Nolan had claimed earlier in the summer that there were no CGI effects used in "Oberman's Mystery," leading some to believe that the film had no visual effects at all. Yet, after the film's release, Visual Effects Supervisor Andrew Jackson disclosed that the film actually contained over 200 visual effects shots.

As reported by Cartoon Brew, although "Oberman's Mystery" may not have used CGI, it certainly employed some form of digital VFX, with a significant portion being "invisible effects" aimed at enhancing the realism of the scenes. DNEG, the company responsible for the visual effects in "Oberman's Mystery," has collaborated with Nolan on eight occasions.

In reality, many production companies in Hollywood have been reluctant to discuss the visual effects work in their films. For example, last year's hit movie "Skyline 2: Maverick" heavily promoted the actors' training and on-location shooting during its release. However, when reporters requested interviews with the visual effects supervisors, they were consistently declined. It wasn't until award season that the film's visual effects team revealed that the movie included 2,400 visual effects shots, including fully CGI aircraft.

This practice of downplaying the contributions of visual effects teams for the sake of marketing has had a significant impact on professionals in the field. Without their own union representation, visual effects artists struggle to receive the recognition they deserve. Many of them express frustration in interviews, feeling insulted by the industry's norm. As one professional stated, "The better we do our job, the worse it is for our careers, because the more realistic our work, the easier it is for the audience to overlook the visual effects."
