According to reports, a few days ago the Oscars announced the nominations for this year, and Andrea Riseborough was shortlisted for Best Actress for "To Leslie", becoming a dark horse. The publicity strategy of the film also caused controversy.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the organizer of the Oscars, recently issued a statement, saying that it is inspecting the election process of this year's nominees without clearly disclosing the targets, saying that it will ensure the fairness and morality of the Oscar competition.

"To Leslie" is one of the lowest-grossing Oscar nominees of all time, grossing $27,000 in North American theaters in October. The film also had little public relations budget during the Academy Awards season, and several members of the film's crew, including Mr. Reisborough, the lead actor and executive producer, used their power to "bully." After she missed out on nominations for the likes of Otti, Viola Davis (" The Warrior Women of Dahomey ") and Danielle Dedewyler (" Teal "), the awars-season approach to "To Leslie" has sparked a heated debate in the industry: Is it a legitimate approach?

According to reports, there is no evidence that Mr. Reisborough himself violated academy rules, and the film has not received any formal complaints, leaving little chance that Mr. Reisborough's nomination could be rescinded. The college will meet next Tuesday and the matter will also be discussed.

Reisborough and "To Leslie" director Michael Morris, among others, rallied friends to support the film. Charlize Theron, Edward NORTON, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox and others held screenings for the film, which also received public endorsements from many insiders. Cate Blanchett mentioned Reisborough's performance in her Critics' Choice best Actress acceptance speech the other day.

At issue in the film's approach are allegations that the team's approach to marketing was too aggressive, taking advantage of a loophole in the rules, such as asking friends who are Academy members (with Oscar voting rights) to support it, and whether that involved violating the rules by lobbying academy members directly. And one of the most vocal supporters of "To Leslie," for example, is actress & Academy member Frances Fisher (who is not directly affiliated with "To Leslie"), who posted some messages on social media about her support for Reisborough's performance, including a direct call out to members of the academy's cast department: "If 218 of the 1,302 members of the acting branch put Reisborough first when they vote, she can lock up an Oscar nomination. And now it looks like Viola Davis, Michelle Yeoh, Danielle Dedewyler and Cate Blanchett are all guaranteed nominations for their performances." If Fisher was associated with "To Leslie," this would be a violation of the Academy's rules (which prohibit the use of names or titles of competitors in public relations strategies), but as mentioned above, there is no evidence that Fisher was directly involved in "To Leslie," nor that Reisborough was involved in Fisher's actions.

Oscar PR involves a lot of money, people and strategy from companies. The incident has caused unease among many in the system, and one studio publicist, who asked not to be named, thinks their task will be harder in the future: "Our bosses and clients will look to us to win over Edward NORTON and think that's enough. Andrea's nomination is unusual and a miracle, and many of my colleagues have jobs that wouldn't exist if it weren't strange."
