According to reliable sources, HBO's upcoming TV series adaptation of "The Last of Us" could span across four seasons, with showrunner Craig Mazin proposing the idea.

During a recent interview, Mazin was asked whether the success of the first season aided in securing a larger budget for the second. He responded, "Budgets always increase, and then discussions arise on why the increase isn't sufficient." He further emphasized, "I've been in this industry for years and never encountered such a scenario. I make requests, they readily agree—ultimately achieving our goals. So, I'm not concerned in the least."

Mazin continued, "We've started discussions on the production conditions for the second, third, and fourth seasons. I've always believed that they genuinely value the creative essence of this show. Extensive deliberations have taken place."

Subsequently, the interviewer queried whether Mazin and Neil Druckmann endorse HBO's concept of four seasons for the series. Mazin replied, "I did bring up the point; the specific count might fluctuate between three to five seasons, but four seems like a good fit. Episode counts might vary for different quarters—entirely contingent on the narrative we're weaving."

Addressing the casting of Abby in the second season, Mazin revealed during the interview, "We might have made some headway, but due to strikes, progress has been hindered. We're actively addressing it. Abby is the first character we're keen on exploring. Historically, we've excelled in selecting core actors, despite differing opinions. The overall reception has been positive, resonating well with audiences and relevant institutions."
